Questions
What this is, what it is not, and what it costs you.
No, and I would rather not use the word. Coaching implies I bring expertise in your domain, or that I am working on your skills and performance. I do neither. I bring questions, and the discipline to keep asking them after the point where a colleague would let it go.
No. I do not provide psychotherapy, emotional or mental health support, treatment, or clinical services of any kind.
No. I remain strictly non-directive. I do not recommend courses of action or take responsibility for the outcome of a decision. My job is to challenge and clarify reasoning. We may explore hypotheticals and counterfactuals, but nothing in a session should be understood as a recommendation.
A structured, confidential dialogue. We take an area of concern - usually an upcoming decision, a challenge, a frustration or a moment of surprise - and interrogate the assumptions underneath it, test it for internal coherence, explore alternative hypotheses and calibrate how confident you should actually be.
People willing to subject their thinking to rigorous examination. Enterprise leaders, founders and owners, certainly, but the work is relevant to anyone whose judgement is the thing they are paid for - particularly those without a real intellectual counterweight inside their organisation.
It suits people who can examine their reasoning without defending it, and who can tolerate a question that does not resolve in the same hour.
Anyone looking for direction, reassurance, emotional support or a fast answer. It is not a substitute for professional advice from someone who knows your field, it is not a self-improvement programme, and I do not offer skill development.
On a retainer, with sessions booked in advance. I keep the number of clients deliberately small to preserve depth. There is a minimum of five sessions per engagement, rolling thereafter, and most relationships turn out to be long-term.
Engagements are retained monthly, with a minimum of five sessions. Rates are agreed at the introductory call, once we both know whether this is the right thing for your situation.
Strictly. I hold no stake in outcomes, no equity and no organisational position, and I operate independently of board and stakeholder politics. I work under non-disclosure agreements and keep deliberately minimal notes, abstracted and encrypted. Fuller notes or recordings can be kept for continuity, but only at your request and at your risk.
This sits alongside all three and replaces none of them. Your board has a stake in the outcome, your coach is working on you, and your therapist is working on something else entirely. I am working on the argument.
Clients report being more open to feedback and clearer about their own reasoning. They say their confidence in an idea becomes better aligned with their understanding of it, and that they get better at navigating uncertainty.
